Baikal Lakeshore: Tour to the World's deepest and oldest freshwater Lake




We cordially invite you to participate in the post-conference trip to spectacular Lake Baikal on 8 – 13 August, 2020. The trip will coincide with the scientific workshop “Bringing together Selenga-Baikal Research 2020”, which you can optionally take part in (application required; click here for more info). The trip will include:

- Return plane tickets to Ulan-Ude (Republic of Buryatia, Russia; ca. 7 hours flight)

- Transfer from Ulan-Ude to Gremyachinsk area on the Baikal lakeshore (ca. 3 hours journey)

- Full board and lodging at the Baikal Riviera park hotel (https://www.baikalholiday.ru/pages/gremyach.html#baikrev)

- Numerous local trips (Ushkanyi island, Barguzin valley, scuba diving options, etc.)

To apply for the trip please provide the organizers with your personal and accompanying persons’ credentials.

Day 0/1 (Evening of 7th August / 8th August)

Overnight flight from Moscow to Ulan-Ude.

Transfer from Ulan-Ude International Airport to Gremyachinsk area (ca. 3 hours).

Sightseeing along the way – the Selenga river, Khamar-Daban ridge.

Day 2 (9th August)

Trip to Chivyrkuy bay https://goo.gl/maps/vGxRer2hkfYSuoP69

The Chivyrkuy bay (pronounced Chee-veer-kuuj) pristine nature is preserved by the Zabaikalsky national park. The crystal-clear waters of this shallow bay can warm up to 24°C in summer. Thermal springs are located on its shoreline.

The trip will include: transfer to bayline and back, boat trip on the bay and islands, visit to thermal springs and lunch.


Day 3 (10th August)

The unique valley of this Baikal tributary holds numerous natural, ethnic and religious treasures. Yarikta village is praised as the most beautiful village in Russia.

The trip will include: transfer to Barguzin and Yarikta villages, guided tour, visit to Yanzhima-Sarasvati datsan (temple), lunch


Day 4 (11th August)

The Ushkan island archipelago, a total of 4 islands, is located in the middle part of the Lake Baikal. Its rocky shores are favored as rooking grounds among Baikal seals (Phoca sibirica).

The trip will include: transfer to the boat and back, boat trip around the Ushkan islands (lunch included)


Day 5 (12th August)

One of the most highly praised overlook of the Lake Baikal is located on the Khoboi cape on the Olkhon island. The boat will pass over the deepest location on the entire lake.

The trip will include: transfer to the boat and back, boat trip (50 km, including lunch), tour to Khoboi cape


Day 6 (13th August)

Transfer from Gremyachinsk to Ulan-Ude. City tour. Shopping. Accommodation in hotel “Buryatia”.

Day 7 (14th August)

Return to Moscow.




Organisational issues:

The excursion fee will be around EUR 1700 and includes: return plane tickets from Moscow to Ulan-Ude and back, transfers, accommodation and meals (full board) during the trip; local trips according to the programme.


Binding registration for this excursion and pre-payment of 50% of the expected tour price must be done before 31st of March 2020 (first come – first serve). Registration and payment for this tour (as well as for accompanying persons can be done via the registration portal).
