Welcome to the International Conference on the Status and Future of the World‘s Large Rivers website!

BOKU - The University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences, Vienna

 

This conference has been organised by BOKU - University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences, Vienna and it has been held from 11 - 14 April 2011 in the Austria Center Vienna. 

 

More than 550 abstracts have been submitted to the conference. Out of these, 360 have been accepted for presentation.

 

We have had more than 400 participants coming from 73 different nations from all over the world.

 

The presentations covered all relevant conference topics as well as numerous rivers (from the Amazon to the Yangtze, from the Mississippi to the large Siberian rivers...).

The final version of the Vienna Declaration which has been adopted by the conference attendees on Wednesday, 13th of April 2011, is online.

Manaus, Brazil, in 2014.

"Green Meeting" AwardUmweltzeichen

We are proud to announce, that this conference has been certified according to the guidelines for the "Green Meetings" eco-label which imposes special requirements on the conference organizer in regard to waste prevention, environmental friendly modes of transportation, CO2-compensations as well as the assignment of sustainable service providers. Eco-labelled hotels and catering companies have been preferentially assigned; bio-food has been served during the event.

 

On Thursday, 19th of May, the Austrian Federal Minister for Agriculture, Forestry, Environment and Water Management Nikolaus Berlakovich handed over the Green Meeting Award to Prof. Helmut Habersack (BOKU), Maria Danklmaier and Daniela Filzwieser (Austropa Interconvention) in order to honor their efforts in organizing and hosting the first international eco-labelled conference in Vienna.
